Transforming an Unfinished Workshop into a Dream Space

This Peterborough workshop was left in an incomplete state when contractors walked away from the project. While it’s unfortunate when projects stall, clear communication and transparency often lead to reasonable solutions.

Our goal was to pick up the pieces, work with the homeowner to develop a clear vision, and bring their wood-finish dreams to life.

Revitalizing and Completing the Workshop

Collaborative Vision

Unfinished design with no cohesive vision.

STEP 1

Partnered with the homeowner to develop a project plan with a desired end state.

STEP 2

Incorporate cedar, white wood, and pine finishes for a standout look. LED lighting was added for enhanced brightness, perfect for detailed project work.

Door Transition Repair

Garage-to-shop door transition in poor condition, with a cracked floor and an unstable brick wall above.

STEP 1

Removed concrete and rebar to patch the floor.

STEP 2

Stabilized the 6.5 ft cracking brick wall using a 2x5 metal tube as a header, secured with 2x10 king studs lagged into the wall structure.

STEP 3

Added a 1/4” form board barrier and finished the door trim with 3/4” x 12” white wood paneling for a seamless look.

Ceilings and Walls

An unfinished interior with misaligned elements. Nothing in the space was square or plumb, creating design challenges.

STEP 1

Ceilings finished with V-groove cedar paneling, securely brad-nailed in place.

STEP 2

Walls covered with white wood paneling for a cleaner, more refined appearance than standard barnboard.

STEP 3

Trimmed windows and exterior doors with select pine to achieve a polished, cost-effective finish.

STEP 4

Careful attention to detail ensured finishes were clean and crisp, effectively disguising imperfections in the underlying structure.
