Deck Refurbishment Project

This often used backyard deck had seen better days.

The once-sturdy surface had deteriorated significantly, with large sections of the decking rotting and breaking away. The goal was to breathe new life into the deck while maintaining the beloved gazebo in place.

The task at hand was to assess the structure, replace the damaged boards, and recommend a durable finish that could withstand the elements for years to come.

From Wear and Tear

to Brand New

PRESERVATION

Upon inspecting, the deck's structure was found to be in good condition. Only the rotten boards would be replaced, while the rest would be salvaged, sanded, and reinstalled for a renewed look.

LIFTING THE GAZEBO

The project involved lifting a gazebo on the deck using jack posts, without disassembling it. The gazebo was secured to the deck with lag bolts after adding 2x6 bridging for support. This created a stable structure for long-term use.

REINVENTING THE STAIRS

The deck's stairs were worn and weathered due to heavy use. The team replaced the treads with durable composite decking for longevity. Rubber horse stable mats were installed underneath to prevent water damage and extend the stairs' lifespan.

REFINING THE FRAME

The deck's original frame design was improved by adding extra rim joists to allow for a complete picture frame design with neat corners, enhancing the deck's appearance significantly.

AND FINALLY

What began as a deteriorating deck with a struggling structure was transformed into a revitalized outdoor space.

With thoughtful design choices, careful restoration of materials, and the addition of durable finishes, the Chatham deck was ready to stand the test of time. The gazebo remained an integral part of the space, now securely anchored, while the refined picture frame and upgraded stairs added both beauty and function. This project wasn’t just about replacing wood—it was about crafting a lasting, inviting space where memories could continue to be made for years to come.
